MA BLOG: Meet Emma in Learning

Ever wondered what it is like being a Digital Creative MA? Or not sure exactly what it involves? Some of this year’s Modern Apprentices lift the lid on work and activities that they have been involved in.

My name is Emma and I am a 20-year-old ex-art student from Stirling. I started my modern apprenticeship with Young Scot because I wanted to try a more vocational way of studying as I am very much a “learning by doing” kind of person. It turned out to be the perfect thing for me, I find it incredibly motovaiting being able to put what I have learnt into practice straight away!

A typical working day for me would include making content for the Year of Young People digital platforms as well as overall maintenance of the YoYP 2018 website … but I can safely say no two days have been the same so far!

My time is split between two employers, Young Scot, Scottish Government and on Wednesday I get a chance to meet the other MA’s for soft skill days as well as time with our collage tutor. Splitting my time between two different offices has been challenging to keep on top of at times but it also adds a deferent dynamic to my week as I get to work with lots of different people, in different environments!

Despite the fact my apprenticeship is only in its 6th month I have already had lots of amazing opportunity’s. I have worked with the Scottish Government video team, collecting content at amazing events and even interviewing The First Minister! Not forgetting of course in the second month of my job I got interviewed on Live at 5 with a YoYP 2018 Ambassador!

During my time as a Young Scot MA I have had the chance to meet some inspiring and inspirational people as well as gaining a qualification and gaining on the job skills! Even though I am only at the half way mark I feel I have already developed skills that will be important in the future as well as having some amazing experiences. I wish I had known more about modern apprenticeships whilst I was making my Higher Education plans as I could have made a much more informed choice!
