MA BLOG: Meet Lewis in Learning

Brought to you by

Ever wondered what it is like being a Digital Creative MA? Or not sure exactly what it involves? Some of this year’s Modern Apprentices lift the lid on work and activities that they have been involved in.

My names Lewis, I’m 18 and a creative and digital media Modern Apprentice for Fife Council.

I have been a modern apprentice for 7 months now and I have been given so many opportunities. With the Council I am part of Communities and Neighbourhoods, my job role is a Creative and Digital Engagement Assistant, this means I work with youth groups and other organisations in Fife to help with training young people and to create media for them to use to promote their group or to talk about youth issues that are important to them. I get to work with SLR cameras and media editing software like Premiere pro and photoshop to create the media for all of Fife to see.

I chose a Modern Apprenticeship because I had just finished a Games and web design course at college and I wanted to find a job but I didn’t have the experience to get any of the office jobs that were advertised. I was looking through Fife council apprenticeships and I found this opportunity that used the skills I had just learned and developed in college.

With 2018 being the year of young people I help run the youTH Space Fife Facebook and Instagram pages, social media is a big part of my job as young people are always using social media. With my job being Digital Engagement it is important to connect with young people and give them the opportunities that are important to them.

My highlights from my Apprenticeship are: Getting invited to the Queensferry Crossing’s Royal Opening ceremony, I also helped film at various events such as the Bio Diversity conference and have done Photography at the 5 Rights launch held at the Young Scot office

My aspirations for the future would be to have a permanent job with the council or at least working with digital media as I enjoy being able to work with skills I have already learned and working to develop those skills.
