MA BLOG: Meet Ross in Learning
Ever wondered what it is like being a Digital Creative MA? Or not sure exactly what it involves? Some of this year’s Modern Apprentices lift the lid on work and activities that they have been involved in.
My name is Ross, I’m 20 and I am a Modern Apprentice from Dundee.
I work at Dundee City Council as part of a Big Lottery/ European Social Funded project called Dundee Money Action.
I always liked the sound of an apprenticeship because it gives you an opportunity to work and learn at the same time. I thought about going to University, however, I preferred the idea of gaining my qualification while experiencing the work place. I believe that stands you in better stead for future employment because you’ve learned in that working environment.
My role involves designing and running the website, as well as updating all the social media platforms. With our service being heavily community based, I am always engaging with clients from our project too. I am also working in marketing and promoting Dundee Money Action to advertise it to the public.
I’ve really enjoyed working in a passionate team who are striving to provide a great service to the people of Dundee. It has been extremely beneficial to me so far, as I’ve been picking up tips and skills from the more experienced people that I work beside. It is improving my qualities every day within my job and I am always improving.
I hope after this apprenticeship that I continue working in a similar field to what I’m doing just now. It is vital that I do as much as I can throughout this apprenticeship to give me the best possible chance to get another similar full-time job once the year is up. I am confident that the apprenticeship will set me up for the future because of the opportunities it provides.
