The Renfrewshire Young Scot National Entitlement Card in Volunteering
Not got your Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC) yet?
There are many benefits to having a Renfrewshire NEC including:
- Voluntary proof of age
- Travel discounts for 16-18 year olds and full time volunteers
- Rewards points - points make prizes!
- Use your card to get points for volunteering under the Give to Get Scheme
Check out the video below.
So how do you get one of these cards?
The main place to get a card in Renfrewshire is any local library. We also have some application schemes running in schools at certain times and a new online application system is coming soon (details of that will be here soon!)
All primary 7 pupils in Renfrewshire will be given the chance to get their Young Scot card before they start secondary school. If you're currently in secondary school and don't yet have a card, look out for the Youth Services link officer in school (ask at the school office who the Youth Services link officer is if you aren't sure) and they will be able to sort you out with an application.
If you are no longer at school or if you are but can't get in touch with the link officer, you can visit any local library in Renfrewshire for an application form. Libraries staff will advise you how to complete it and what sort of identification you will need when you return it.
If you have lost your Young Scot Card or need a replacement please call Renfrewshire Council's Customer Contact Unit office on 0300 300 0300. They will take your details and request a new card for you.
You can request a photo upgrade and change of card details at the library or else, if you are in school, with the Youth Services link officer. The new online system coming soon will let you update your photograph and personal details if you need to.
Youth Services regularly visit all schools with special sign-up sessions during lunchtimes so keep your eyes peeled for us!
Full Time Volunteers
If you are a full time volunteer (35 hours+ per week) and you are aged between 19 and 25 (under 26) you are eligible for the Young Persons Concessionary Travel scheme. Please note you will need to provide evidence from Project Scotland or CSV Scotland. You will be entitled to the same travel discounts that 16-18 year olds can get.
