Give to Get in Volunteering

Give to Get is a new volunteer campaign to recognise and reward young volunteers in Renfrewshire.  Read on to find out more about this exciting new scheme!

Volunteering is a great way to make friends, get some new skills, build up your CV and make a difference to others in the community.  We think volunteers deserve a little more and you can now get reward points on your Renfrewshire Young Scot National Entitlement Card (NEC) for giving your time.  Give to Get is all about recognising young people aged between 11 and 25  who give up their time to volunteer in projects that improve the Community.  Partners including Engage Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire Leisure, Street Stuff and Erskine Music and Media Studio have signed up to the scheme.

How does it work?

We've created volunteering milestones based on the number of hours you volunteer.  Every time you hit one of these milestones you'll be given points on your Young Scot NEC card.  Simple!  You can then exchange your points for stuff - vouchers, exclusive experiences, and some other must have goodies.  The staff member who supports your volunteering experience will be responsible for providing you with your points as you reach milestones.

Here are the points you can earn based on the hours you do:

As well as points for volunteering locally, you can also get additional points if you complete an Award such as the Saltire, Duke of Edinburgh's Award or the Youth Achievement Award.  Each of these awards have there own milestones for points and we will explain those when you sign up.You will also be signed up for the Saltire Award, which celebrates commitment to volunteering.

How do I get Rewards for Volunteering?

First off make sure you have your Young Scot NEC card so you can collect points.  They are loaded on to your card so you can't collect them without one!  To get your card you can visit any local library in Renfrewshire or an online application website will be coming soon (check back here for the address once launched)  Once you get your card just register it on the Young Scot Rewards website - you get some points just for signing up too!  From there you can keep track of your points balance and exchange them for exclusive Rewards and offers.  You will see what kind of goodies you can with your points there too.

When you volunteer with any organisation taking part in Give to Get, they will either scan your Young Scot card with a handheld reader to add points or will give you a paper voucher with a code that you just enter on the website to redeem.  It's really easy!

How do I get my Saltire, DofE or Youth Achievement Award?

We will take care of all of the paperwork for your Award.  All you need to do is keep a log of all of your hours and meet with your supervisor now and again to make sure they are all counted.

OK, I'm interested...how do I volunteer?

There are a number of partners signed up to Give to Get which means there are lots of different types of volunteering opportunities for you.  On our campaign page on the Young Scot portal you will see links for volunteering with Engage Renfrewshire, Renfrewshire Leisure, Youth Services, Street Stuff and Erskine Music and Media Studio.  Just click into each one to find out more and to get in touch with them.  We will be adding other partners in future so keep an eye out.

What happens once I get in touch to say I'm interested?

Someone from each place will get back to you and arrange a time to catch up and talk about what you would be interested in doing and what opportunities there are for you.  If you still aren't sure about anything and would like some more information then feel free to email us on youth@renfrewshire.gov.uk and we will get back to you.
