Paisley made the short list! in Paisley 2021
Following the announcement made by DCMS at 10:30pm tonight (14/07/2017) it has been revealed that Paisley has been shortlisted yet again for the 2021 City of Culture bid.
The official Facebook post is as follows:
''Just for reference the post to share is as follows,
Great news! Paisley has made the shortlist for the UK City of Culture 2021 title! We are absolutely thrilled. Our thanks go to every single person who helped make this happen....30,000 of you took part in the conversation around the bid and made it your own. The bid has already raised awareness of Paisley’s unique cultural and heritage assets, and changed perceptions of the town – and we now have an even bigger stage to show why Paisley matters to Scotland, the UK and the world. Winning the title will mean a year of major events and a massive economic boost for the whole area. We are joined by Coventry UK City of Culture bid 2021, Sunderland 2021, Stoke-on-Trent UK City of Culture 2021 and Swansea 2021 on the shortlist and will now submit a second-stage bid with Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport for September, with the winner announced at the end of the year. There’s never been a Scottish winner and we would love to be first, so we want the whole country to help us show the judges Paisley wants, needs and can deliver this title!''
There has never been another Scottish winner before, so even getting this far never mind being in a real chance to win this is incredible! It is estimated that if Paisley won the bid it could boost the economy by 172million and could create up to 4,700 jobs. aswell as a program of world class culture, bringing in an estimated 1.7 attendees in 2021. This could mean big things for Paisley!
