Get Active in Renfrewshire! in Health
There are lots of ways to get more physical activity in Renfrewshire. Have a read of five ways you can do this.
1. Renfrewshire Leisure gyms & swimming pools
With your Young Scot card you can get money off membership to Renfrewshire leisure making it just £14.95 per month for access to fitness suites, swimming pools, fitness classes and health suites!
2. Active Communities
Active Communities a charity based in Paisley who deliver and support physical activity, community sport and health and well being across Renfrewshire. They run a range of classes and workshops for all ages which focus on having fun while getting more active.
Girls on the Run aims to inspire girls to be active, healthy and feel good about themselves. Sessions run on a Saturday morning from 11.30am and include walking, jogging, boot camp, dance fit, team building and pampering. So if you're in 11-16 and fancy having fun while being active this is for you!
Feel Good About Youth is free to attend and gives you the chance to take part in lots of fun activities including games, arts and crafts, sports, music, dance and even smoothie making!
3. Park Run
Takes place at ON-X Sports Centre in Linwood every Saturday morning. It is a free 5k run event, and as your time is recorded each week it allows you the chance to monitor your own progress and compete against your best time. A little bit of competition could be that extra bit of motivation you need to get out for a run!
If you'd like to get involved in your local community, there are also plenty of opportunities to volunteer at Park Run events. If you're a Young Scot Rewards user you'll get 250 Rewards points for volunteering at one of these events too!
Walking is a great form of exercise that you can do every day. Simple things like taking the stairs instead of the lift, or getting off the bus a stop early and walking the rest of the way can all really add up.
If you fancy exploring your local area, Renfrewshire has lots of great walking routes for you to try! These range from local parks to walks along the river in Renfrew or around Paisley Moss nature reserve. Going with friends or family gives you a chance to have a bit of a chat while you walk, and being in the outdoors is great for your mental health too. Win-win!
5. Street Stuff
Street Stuff provide a range of activities in the evenings and at weekends across Renfrewshire. The Street Stuff programme offers lots of things to do including football and dance which will allow you to be active while being social and having loads of fun.
