My experience at Young Scot Awards 2017 as an MA in Articles
In the run up to the Young Scot Awards, which took place at The Crowne Plaza/SECC (Armadillo) on the 28th April. Things in the Young Scot office were very lively, from things such as organising goody bags to planning and working out what everyone was doing, and about several team meetings and briefs later we were ready for the big day.
As I am keen on photography I got the amazing offer to do photography for the event, on top of this I got told it would be black and white photography, which funnily enough is my favourite style of photography.
Throughout the night each of 6 MAs were stationed and prepped to do separate tasks. We started off on the red carpet (green carpet as the theme was nature) and I took photos of several of the nominees and the VIP guests. Some of the celebrity guests featured the cast of still game, Xfactors Nicky McDonald and Emily Middlemas. Not to mention paralympic such as Erraid Davies and Maria Lyle.
Followed by the Green Carpet event was the dinner event, where guests sat down to enjoy a 3 course meal, accompanied by speeches by several speakers, then followed by the awards themselves. Which took places in the SECC Armadillo. I got the opportunity to stand right in front of the stage and get great some endless photo opportunities.

The Young Scot Awards were a great thing to experience and really helped me gain more confidence with my camera, I had never taken any photos like this before, so I felt like having this experience was a real learning curve. On top of that seeing how much the Youth of Scotland achieve and inspire others is fantastic. I feel as though the youth of Scotland get such a bad reputation nowadays for the small minority of youths who do add to the bad reputation of us. I think everyone who is involved or has attended the Young Scot Awards has came to realise this as I certainly have.
