sQuid on Your NEC

sQuid logo

sQuid is a new e-money service that is now available on the Young Scot National Entitlement Card. sQuid is an electronic purse that you can use to pay for low value items in a quicker and easier way than cash. You will see the brand appearing in lots of local shops and council service points.

What can I use it for ?

sQuid on your National Entitlement Card can be used to buy everyday things like a bottle of juice, magazines or a sandwich. You will also be able to use it for some council run venues like swimming at Olympia.

What's in it for me ?

It makes paying for things easy, quick and will save you fiddling about with coins or change.

Where can I use it ?

In Dundee, sQuid on the NEC can be used at local shops and services in:

Camperdown, City Centre, Fintry, Hilltown, St Mary's, Broughty Ferry, Whitfield, Douglas, Charleston, Dens Road. There will be many more to follow…

Click the link to the right for the full list of names. Watch out for the logo appearing at a shop near you! We'll update the site as more join up.

Sounds Great…What Now?

If you already have a Young Scot NEC

If you are at school then you will be getting a new card with sQuids on it sent to your home address. It will work in the school catering system, just like your current card does. The money on your card for school lunches is held separately to the money you may add to the card through sQuid.

Please remember you will not be able to use your old card for sQuids. So if you want to use sQuid, make sure you carry your new card with you. Your new card will look the same as your old one but will have a small sQuid logo on the front.

If you are no longer at school then your current National Entitlement Card will need to be updated or enabled so you can use it for sQuid. This can be done at Customer Services (Floor 2 of Tayside House) or at any local Library in Dundee. Take your card with you and they will add sQuid to your current card.

If you don't already have an NEC

If you are at school. The card team are making arrangements with your school at the moment to make it as easy as possible for you to get one. If you really can't wait, call Customer Services ph.433558 and they will send you out an application form - BUT it will be easier and faster if you can wait until they come to your school.

If you are not at school... and have never had a card - call Customer Services on 433558 to get an application form or apply online at www.dundeecity.gov.uk/natentcard

How do I add money through sQuid to my card ?

You can add money to your card at shops throughout the city where you see the sQuid logo or online at www.squidcard.com. Topping up is really easy and you can check your balance quickly too. We recommend that you register your card with sQuid to protect the money on your card. Once your new card arrives, log on and register!

Is my NEC now a credit card ?

It is NOT a credit card. You cannot get into debt by using sQuid to buy things, as you can only spend what you have on the card. It is just a safer way for you to carry cash for the things you probably buy everyday.
