The New National Entitlement Card For Young People

Why your Young Scot card just got even better...

The new National Entitlement Card for young people is a free electronic smart card for all young people aged 11 to 26. The card has been created by the Scottish Government, Young Scot, your local council and lots of other organisations working together so that it’s easier for you to use their services across Scotland.

Travel

The card will enable young people to get cheaper transport on buses, trains and ferries. If you are 16, 17 or 18 then you are entitled to:

• One-third off adult single fares on buses all over Scotland
• A free Young Person’s Railcard, cutting up to one-third off train fares
• Two free return ferry journeys to the mainland if you live on an island.

At the moment not all of the transport companies have the special equipment needed to read these cards. However, we don’t want you to have to wait until they do to start claiming your discounts, so in the meantime you will receive additional cards with your National Entitlement Card which can be used to get transport offers.

Young Scot Discounts & Services

If you do not fall into the above age category then you will still be able to apply for your NEC and take advantage of its many benefits. Unfortunately you will not get the transport concessions available to 16-18 year olds, but you will still be able to get the usual great discounts and services from Young Scot! Dialogue Youth - Your Local Expert

Your Dialogue Youth Unit is your local expert on the NEC and should be visiting schools over the coming months to help you sign up. If this does not happen in your area, or you no longer go to school, then you can contact Young Scot InfoLine on 0808 801 0338 (Mon - Fri 10am - 6pm) and we will handle or direct your application.
