Borders Disability Forum

Exists to improve the lives of people with disabilities and sensory impairments. Membership of the Forum is free, and open to anyone with an interest in disabilities issues. The Forum works with individuals, groups, statutory and voluntary agencies to promote the interests of disabled people, and to tackle disability issues. At our Galashiels office we provide a Drop-In information and advice facility, where up-to-date information can be gained from a broad range of leaflets, magazines and equipment catalogues. We also have several computer databases we can use, and Internet access for other topics.

The Drop-In is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 10.00am - Noon.

Children 1st

Offer a range of services to children and families throughout the Scottish Borders, including two different services for young people. The first is called Family Group Conferencing Meetings, which can help when there are concerns about whether a young person can continue to live at home, or for their welfare and safety. Children 1st also offer support and information for young people who have been affected by emotional, physical or sexual abuse - any contact is in confidence.

LGBT Youth Borders

Is here for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people aged 13-25. We are based in Gala, Peebles, Hawick and Eyemouth and offer safe spaces for people to hang out, chat to trained workers about sexuality and gender identity (and other stuff!) and of course, have fun. You can also find out about the different opportunities out there for LGBT young people right across Scotland. If going along to a group sounds a bit scary straight off, then you can meet up 1-2-1 with a worker instead.
