Young Scot Overload
Young Scot Overload is a brand new project exclusive to us which aims to help local bands and solo artists have their material recognised. On a brand new site each band will have their own profile - similar to Bebo - where users can login, listen to music, rate and give feedback on bands.
In February, the top 20 bands from the public vote will be invited to play at the Young Scot Overload Festival, in the Cornerstone Church, Kilwinning. The festival will also offer a range of other activities and promote the sense of having fun without the need to get drunk. "Pub Culture" a dry bar with all the joys of the pub will be situated in the upstairs café which will have loads of activities such as a pub quiz and karaoke. The Mobile Youth Centre will be present at the event with a PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and laptops with internet access.
What are we looking for?
Really, we're looking for bands or solo artists who have been together over 6 months and have their own recorded material. If they don't have their own recorded material, they can contact The Caley Centre (our alternative to Abbey Road) and arrange for free recording lessons, where they'll be taught how to record themselves and have the opportunity to do so. Unlike most events of this type, we're not wanting the same old rock bands we want EVERYTHING from the best of Scottish Piping to most rocking band of the shire.
How can bands become involved?
You can download the application form and additional model release forms on this site by clicking the button on the right hand side.

Teachers & Youth Workers In Need Of Inspiration!
The young people you work with in North Ayrshire all have a Young Scot book, and these books can be used as part of a PSE lesson relating to citizenship. Whether the young people you work with can find them or not is a different question, as there are often many stories of them being lost! But these books can be equally as valuable in a youth work/ teaching setting to inspire young people and prompt discussion and debate around citizenship and their place in the community.
Young Scot no longer produce hand books for teachers, however, there are a number of downloadable hand-outs in PDF format on the corporate version of the Young Scot website including every section from both the 'Wee Book' and 'Big Book', activity ideas and discussion starters, quizzes and answer sheets.
If you intend to use the books as part of a citizenship programme, it may be worth while asking your pupils to leave their books at school for a few months. This way you can get the best out of the books without having to listen to excuses of them being forgotten!
For more information and to download these Click here
If you're a young person in North Ayrshire, or know a young person in North Ayrshire without a Young Scot book, then please e-mail us. However, do check with your school to find out if books are yet to be distributed to your class. If you don't attend school but are still aged 12 to 18 you will be eligible for a Young Scot book and pack.
