Our review:
Having never been an eager fan of the Transformers past movies, I was reluctant to even approach this movie in the slightest. But like many nights, there was a lack of excitement and things to do, so I phoned my brother, got money and took a stroll down to Cineworld.
Opening with an intriguing 15 to 20 minutes of in depth storytelling, regarding a twist and new take on the very first moon landing! It instantly caught my attention with a firm grasp. But unfortunately that excitement was lost relentlessly quick the minute they introduced the supposed people who were meant to considered the main characters, with clichéd dialogue, silly jokes and of course a brand new unknown character!
Revealing this new character, showing first her backside instead of her face, it almost seemed like we were meant to like her...simply for what her appearance was, not because of any likeability her character actually might have...which she didn’t. Including a strong sense of absence of chemistry of the two main characters that were supposedly meant to be head over heels in love with each other...
With vast amounts of special effects (which Michael Bay does best) even that became somewhat of a chore to watch after the first half an hour of destruction.
Put together with a disjointed relationship between the characters, the overall story and the destruction throughout out the movie, this clearly wasn’t meant to make the viewers think or use their brain power very much.
On the surface it appears to be shiny and well polished, but once delved into deeper there is nothing there, apart from robots, beating the crap out of other robots.
Overall I wouldn’t consider this a must see in any sense. Not for the lack of story, sudden ending, lack of character development or over use of action.
But for the mere fact you could see this exact same movie and probably have if you’ve seen or own the first or second one. There is not a hint of originality or creative aspect to be seen.
Apart from the cosmic amounts of superbly animated CGI sequences, (which there are a lot if that is what you like) save your money!
