REVIEW: Limitless

Our Review:

When I first saw an advert for ‘Limitless’ starring Bradley Cooper, I have to say that I wasn’t expecting much. I know it’s bad, but I could really only see Cooper as the immature school teacher from The Hangover.

However, turns out I was wrong. ‘Limitless’ is an action-adventure film about achieving the seemingly impossible through the use of a new drug, and follows Eddie Morra, a failing writer, who comes across this experimental drug and begins to realise how it changes him as a person.

For example, when on the drug, his writing becomes easier than ever before, and he can learn anything in the space of a few hours, meaning that he ‘knows everything about everything’.

However, unlike the movie title, he soon finds out that his supply of this drug is limited, causing his life to take a turn for the worst. I feel that Cooper accurately portrays the classic struggling writer, and makes the impossibility of such a drug seem… well, less impossible.

The only thing that I’d say could be improved with this film is that it’s a little lengthy at times, as I found myself texting whilst watching certain parts and managed to do so without missing anything remotely important.

One of the main ideas of the film is that this drug allows the user to access 100% of their brain, rather than the 20% which we can normally access, but watching the film definitely does not require anything above 20%.

However, simple as it may be, I’d still say it’s an enjoyable watch, and shows a different side of Cooper which I didn’t expect to see.
