REVIEW: Twin Atlantic

Our Review:

Being from Scotland myself, I always feel as if I've gotta stick up for our homegrown bands and pretend to like them, no matter how they may sound.

Fortunately, in the case of Twin Atlantic, I need not pretend. 'Yes, I Was Drunk' is the band's latest single from their 2011 album 'Free', and goes in somewhat of a different direction to the 'sound' for which they're known. Forget the tight, fast-paced alt-rock.. .this single is far slower (maybe a little too slow to begin with...), and more 'anthemic', while obviously still keeping the ridiculously strong Glaswegian accent which apparently gets the English/American fanbase going wild.

As the song progresses, emotion seems to increase, culminating in a jarring, guitar-and-drums-laden finish, with the repetition of the line 'Think I just needed a rush, needed a rush' bringing back a far more familiar sound.

All in all, this single is a definite departure from their norm, but still retains the many features for which the band have such a committed fanbase, and would undoubtedly become a welcome part of any Twin Atlantic fan's cd collection.
