Our Review:
After the astounding success of their debut album ‘Treats’, Brooklyn-based duo Sleigh Bells faced the problem of the ‘difficult second album’.
If I'm perfectly honest, I doubted their abilities, and half expected them to collapse under the pressure and deliver a far below-average attempt. However, ‘Reign Of Terror’ has, in every way, proved me wrong.
Sticking strongly to the qualities that garnered the first album such success, but with louder guitars, more distortion, and smarter lyrics, Sleigh Bells have proved themselves to be a band who isn't giving up any time soon.
‘Comeback Kid’, the first single from the album, is an incredibly well-written song, with the line ‘you’re gone away, but you’ll come back some day’ being the best lyric I’ve heard in a long while. I found it genuinely tricky to choose a favourite, but eventually settled on ‘Leader of the Pack’.
The heavy drums in the background compliment the simple bass line and sweet vocals to make an altogether storming indie-pop song. All in all, if you’re a fan of loud noises, this album will not disappoint.
