Our Review:
Talking in Whispers is the next single from British metalcore band Rise to Remain, and follows about 9 months after their debut album, City of Vultures. The single is almost what you would expect of a metal band who found their success through mySpace and underground music venues... Almost.
On first impressions of the single, it was easy to tune it out as simply another product of cliché metal – it's heavy on guitars, drums are smashed throughout, and a nifty solo features heavily in the middle of the song. A good catchy chorus, with relatively meaningless verses, which build to a great climax. The difference is, that you get a little more from the song on a second listen... Then a little more on the third... Then even more on the fourth. The song is addictive, and makes you think “huh, I missed that last time.” The lyrics seem to have more meaning each time you listen, and the climax seems to get more exciting each time.
Talking in Whispers is an excellent offering from a growing band who are looking to make their impact on the music industry – and from the sounds of this, they just might. The band have received the commendation of Kerrang! and Scuzz, and sound like a more meaningful blend of Your Demise and Sleeping with Sirens. Definitely one to try.
