Carers Week 2012

Do you look after an ill or disabled member of your family or friend? Do you look after them in your spare time, as well as going to school, doing studies or working? If you do then you are one of nearly six million people in the UK who are carers.

There are 174,995 young people in the UK under the age of 18 who care for someone. Over 13,000 of them do this for more than 50 hours per week.

In sickness and in health

Carers Week is running from 18th-24th June. It's all about raising awareness about carers and recognising the contribution that they make. People who are carers give a lot to other people and sometimes it can affect their health.

Support for you

If you are a carer then there is support out there for you in your local area. You can visit the Carers UK website to search for support in your local area or you could give them a ring on their advice line on 0808 808 7777.

YC Net is a website especially for young carers. You can get information and advice, hear about the experiences of other young carers and find out where you can get support.

During Carers week there are lots of events being run all across the country. Why not log onto the Carers Week website and have a look for what is happening in your local area.
