Review: Rise To Remain - This Day Is Mine

Reviewed by Mark Graham

'This Day Is Mine' is the 4th single released from Rise To Remain's debut album 'City of Vultures'. Hailing from London, Rise are a metal core band who have had a pretty impressive start to their musical career, supporting acts such as Funeral For A Friend and Iron Maiden, neither of which are small names in the metal circuit.

Rise to Remain are one of the few Metalcore bands with which I'm familiar, and I feel this is because they're entirely accessible to the majority of music fans, no matter what their genre-of-choice may normally be.

'This Day Is Mine' is the perfect example of this... opening with heavy guitars and drums commonplace in the genre, the song quickly becomes not only a sure-fire winner for metalcore fans, but also just a fantastic song. The angst delivered through the lyrics is met with succinctly angsty instruments, but not in an over-the-top way, and is melodically sound throughout (especially compared to some of the other bands who come under the genre).

All in all, I'd recommend 'This Day Is Mine' to anyone who is looking for something slightly different from their usual musical 'tipple', as I'm primarily a fan of acoustic music, but this still struck a chord with me.
