February 6th-12th (this week) is Tinnitus Awareness Week. So the question is- do you know what Tinnitus is?
Well, if you have ever had a buzzing in your ears then you are feeling the effects of tinnitus. Whether you’ve have a buzzing for a short time after listening to loud music, or for long time, the buzzing is one of the effects of hearing damage.
There isn’t a cure for tinnitus so it’s really important to be aware of what it is, what causes it and how to protect your ears from being damaged by too much noise.
Top tips for protecting your ears:
- Wear ear plugs- if you out somewhere with loud music then try using some ear plugs. This will reduce the impact of the noise on your ears. You might even find you can hear the music better with them in!
- Take breaks- limit the amount of time your ears are exposed to loud noises by taking breaks to give your ears a rest.
- Drink lots of water- this will help keep enough blood coming to your ears and will make sure your inner ear fluids are at the right level.
