2011 has been an incredibly busy year for the four-piece rock band, but it was great to see they had made a conscious effort to bring the tour to their Scottish fans and not simply pitch-up in Glasgow and expect commuters.
Our review:
Twin Atlantic’s Free-Ze tour stop at Edinburgh’s HMV Picture House can be described by four words – relentless, intense, compelling and energetic.
Opening with an instrumental introduction of Serious Underground Dance Vibes, one-by-one the band members took to the stage and revelled in the crowd’s vociferous welcome before ripping into Make a Beast of Yourself. With such an ferocious start, the crowd instantly found themselves trying to keep up!
Admittedly, I was very excited about catching the guys on tour. After failing to catch their set at T in the Park (and every other major festival throughout the summer!) and falling in love with their most recent album Free, I had been longing to see them live. And let me say, they were well worth the wait.
As they played through the tracks of their recent album – with some of their old material thrown in for good measure and a surprising mash-up of the Pixies' Where is My Mind? and TA's very own Crash Land – it became apparent the band were playing to an army of die-hard fans as they sang along with every word. So much so, even lead singer Sam McTrusty confessed he had wrongly been derisive of Edinburgh audiences in the past and went onto proclaim a newfound respect for his local supporters.
I hope that means they’ll be making a speedy return...
