West Lothian Young Scot has visited your Primary 7 Class in May and June 2009

Colin Wilkinson and Claire Carbray from the West Lothian Young Scot Team have visited all P7 pupils in West Lothian over the last two months. We delivered a presentation, on all “Young Scot” products, information about West Lothian Youth Congress and West Lothian’s Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament and informing the young people of three competitions that were entered in great numbers.  The fantastic competitions were won by the following people;

The Christmas Card design was won by Aaron Sneddon of st Nicholas Priamry School!  His design ws of a teddy bear with the young scot triangle on his tummy!  He received his prize of a laptop the last day of term in his Primary Schoool class! Well done!

The tent competition was won by John Alan Moore from Croftmalloch Primary School who received a 3 person tent for designing the best pattern for a tent!

The find the piggy competition was won by Katryna McLeod from Linlithgow Bridge.  Katryna answered the two questions correctly and submittted the entry by email and won a Haribo hamper to share with friends and family over the Summer break!

Well done to the above competition Winners!

The National Young Scot Awards 2009 - Glasgow City Hall  -  Thursday 9th April 2009

The Awards Ceremony and evening was fantastic with a wide range of stars that is our young Scottish Citizens who give up their time to help others, improve lives and or the surroundings of the people of Scotland. West Lothian’s Young People are no exception to this. There is a wealth of talent and flare amongst them that shines through and they deserve to be recognised in their achievements. We are lucky to have such wonderful modest young people who give up their time to provide for others.

The young people stated below have won categories and have been successful finalists;

1. Volunteering Category - Winner - Robert Magee 18ys of Bathgate, West Lothian.

2. Heritage Category - Winner - Mark Nevin 21yrs of East Calder, West Lothian.

3. Community Category - Finalist - Melissa Marsden 17yrs of Breich, West Lothian.

4. Arts Category - Finalist - Brendan Bennett - 19yrs Fauldhouse West Lothian.

5. Homecoming Scotland - Winner - Liam Dunn 17yrs, Livingston West Lothian.

6. Homecoming Scotland - Finalist - Cassandra Oswald 17yrs, Livingston, West Lothian.

The West Lothian Young Scot Team and the Work with Young People Team wish to congratulate them and wish them all the best now and in the future. In our eyes you are stars in our world and keep up the good work that you do!

West Lothian Youth Congress Update

The West Lothian Youth Congress (WLYC) meet on Monday evenings 7pm - 9pm in Lindsay House Chambers every four to six weeks. The Annual General Meeting (A.G.M) took place on Monday 8th June 09.  The existing committee stood down and an election took place.  2009 - 2010 office bearers are as follows; Chair - derek Couper Vice Chair Anna mcPhail, secretary Rebecca Peat and tresurer Alana peters.

 Future agenda items include - Evaluation of the European Parliament Tour, training needs, possible team building residnetial, communications officer post etc.  A very warm welcome to our new members representing St Margarets Academy Ryan Ashcroft and inKimberly Morgan from the health Committee.  Good luck and best wishes to the new Office bearers!

Note - This will be the last Congress meeting in Lindsay house Chambers as we know it as in July 09 the building will be getting knocked down to make way for a new building.  Keep reading here for instruction as to when and where the next meeting will be.

Friday drop in club - West Lothian Young Scot introduces a new drop in for West Lothian Youth Congress members and for young people representing their secondary schools across West Lothian.  This will be held in Lindsay House, South Bridge Street in Bathgate on Friday afternoons 1pm - 4pm.  This space offers support for young people to be creative and get involved in Young Scot activities and learn more about having your say through community planning structures.  If you are coming along please email or phone to let us know you are on your way.  Look forward to meeting you!

 Attention!!!!

Calling all Secondary school Pupil councils in West Lothian. Did you know you have 2 spaces to represent yourselves and your area on West Lothian Youth Congress come and have your say and feedback to your school and community.

West Lothian Youth Congress will welcome new members and will be delighted to talk to you about what's happening to make West Lothian a better place to live. We are a friendly bunch of young people who enjoy hearing others opinions and views and carried them forward to aid change.

The West Lothian Youth Congress meet 10 times per year in Lindsay house, Bathgate from 7pm - 9pm. If you wish more information or wish to come along to one of our meetings please don't hesitate to contact us on the Young Scot address at the bottom of this page!

West Lothian Youth Congress and the Scottish Youth Parliament

The Youth Congress is where young people come together to discuss issues affecting them and to tell service providers what they would like to see happening for all young people in West Lothian. The Congress is part of the Community Planning Partnership in West Lothian and is the platform to elect our 4 members to the Scottish Youth Parliament.
