· Don’t leave it to the last minute!
Teachers tell us this for a reason, so take their advice! It might not be the best thing you want to do after coming home from school – but its necessary to get the grades you want, and need.
· Do it bit by bit.
If you’re not the type of person who can sit at a desk and work for hours until something is done, there’s nothing stopping you from doing it bit by bit. As long as you get your timings right, your homework will be handed in on time without the stress and boringness of sitting in one go.
· Straight after school is a great time to do it.
Think of what you do as soon as you get home. Watch the television? Eat? Listen to music? The time between coming home and teatime is wasted for most people. This time could be used getting homework done, and plus, you get the rest of the night to do what you want!
· Be organised!
The best thing you can do to keep on top of your homework is to be organised. Do whatever suits you – make a rota or timetable, but make sure you write it down. Most schools will get a school diary – you get this for a reason! It’s great to keep track of all your homework.
· Don’t get distracted!
It might be hard concentrating on only your homework- but it needs to be done. Studies have shown that doing your homework without the distraction of a television or loud noises helps get homework done correctly and quickly.
Being a pupil sitting 5 Highers this year I know a thing or two about homework management! Take advantage of that time after school, it really helps. Perhaps if you set a goal, then when you reach it, give yourself a treat.
