Speak Out For You, For Them – Help Is Available

If you’re a young person living with the fear of domestic abuse at home, tell someone - help is available.

That’s the message from Strathclyde Police as the second phase of its campaign to tackle domestic abuse called “Speak out for you, for them” gets underway.

Domestic abuse can happen in all kinds of families. The effects can be devastating - not just for the victim but also for the young people exposed to the abuse. Rather than feeling safe and cared for at home, young people often feel sad, frightened, ashamed or guilty.

It’s important that young people feel supported and that they know they have someone to turn to and the latest phase of the campaign highlights these very issues. It encourages young people to speak out about domestic abuse, letting them know that help is available and that they don’t have to deal with this issue on their own.

Strathclyde Police officers will always listen to young people and if they are told about any incidents of domestic abuse at home, they can help put an end to it.

However, if young people don’t want to speak to a police officer then the campaign encourages them to talking to a trusted adult - a teacher, a social worker, a relative or a support agency like ChildLine - about what's happening.
