How to Get Involved

What is a Youth Forum?

These forums bring together young people to be a voice for local youth. Young people lead the Forums. We also have a Fife Youth Forum. Young people attend from a variety of backgrounds, including the local forums across Fife. Not all the groups call themselves Forums – for shorthand we’re calling any youth issue group or campaigning group a youth forum.

Fife Youth Forum

Fife Youth Forum was launched in the summer of 2006 and set out to act as a voice for young people from all over Fife. The Fife Youth Forum aims to promote different ways of influencing decisions in community planning and also to create opportunities to meet new people from all over Fife and have some fun!

Fife Youth Forum makes it clear why young people should be involved in decisions that affect them and the positives of this! This can happen at every level – local, national and European! Fife Youth Forum has members who have joined at different times, some who have recently joined and others who have been around since day one! It is encouraging to see where young people were when they first joined, where they are now and their hopes for the future!

Fife Youth Forum is always open to any young person in Fife.
Benefits of being in involved in the forum –

  • Being part of positive change
  • Help change negative images and stereo types of young people
  • Increased confidence
  • Helping the Community
  • Being recognised for doing something positive
  • Creating goals and achieving them!

Fife Young People’s Panel

Open to young people, aged 10-15, the Young People’s Panel is for young people who want to give their views and opinions on things. If you are 16 or over, you can get involved with Fife People’s Panel instead.

All you need to do is fill in a questionnaire about four times a year. You might also be asked if you want to get together with other people from the Panel to talk about things, maybe once or twice a year. Fife Partnership, the people who create the questionnaire, want your opinion on all sort of things to do with where you.

Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP)

The Scottish Youth Parliament is the voice for young people nationally. Ten Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs)
have been elected through the Big Shout to represent Fife at national meetings, developing and debating a youth agenda for Scotland.

Fife-wide Pupil Council

This brings together pupil council reps from all over Fife. Also
individual school pupil councils take on local issues and are being
supported to form strong and influential Area Pupil Councils.

Children’s Voices

Children’s Voices encourages younger children in Fife to become MCPs, Members of the Children’s Parliament, online, and to vote on issues. Twenty-two children from Levenmouth, Kirkcaldy
and Glenrothes are being supported to meet each month to influence “adults who matter”. And more are going to join from Cowdenbeath area.
