Young People Show Their Passion for Volunteering

‘Volunteer Champions’ is a project which trains young people in secondary schools to promote a volunteering culture to their school and local community. The project is a partnership between Volunteer Centre East Dunbartonshire and Turnbull High School and has gone from strength to strength since its creation nearly three years ago. Young people who graduate to become Volunteer Champions get the opportunity the following year to become Facilitators who then help the Volunteer Centre train the new recruits. Lauren Mullen, Volunteer Champion said: “The facilitation training has changed me as a person. I am much more sure of myself. It is fantastic and I think everyone should get involved!”

There has been a huge growth in the project which has now developed into other schools in East Dunbartonshire. Bishopbriggs Academy has completed the first phase of the project and held their graduation and young people from Lenzie Academy will graduate in the next few weeks. Luisa Palmegiani, Schools Project Leader said “It has been fantastic to work with these young people and watch them grow in confidence during their training. They are very hard-working, and inspirational young people who will be great at promoting the benefits of volunteering across East Dunbartonshire as they truly have a passion for it.”
