Argyll & Bute

Youth Forum

What is The Argyll and Bute Youth Forum?

In March 1998, 30 young people from across the Argyll and Bute council area came together to look at bringing local forums and young people together. A conference followed in October 1998 where it was agreed that they would elect 32 youth representatives, 8 from each of the 4 council decentralised areas.

What They Do

The aim of the Youth Forum is to give young people more influence with local politicians and councillors. It will give young people the chance to contribute to decisions made about service developments and how money is spent on children and young people's services in Argyll and Bute.

The main issues identified by young people were:

Transport, Places to Meet, Travel Opportunities, Alcohol and Drugs, Leisure, Youth Representation, Funding, Housing, The Environment, Youth Information.
