Accessibility
Here's some information on accessibility in relation to the Young Scot website.
Young Scot wants to make this website as accessible as possible to all young people in Scotland. One of the ways of doing this is to make sure the portal is designed in a way that makes sure that young people using different types of web browsers can use the site. For example blind or partially sighted young people use speech-based browsers where content from a website is read out to them.
The Royal National Institute for the Blind's (RNIB) "See It Right" campaign encourages web designers to create sites that are accessible to everyone. Young Scot was awarded the See It Right logo for the site in January 2003, which means that the portal had achieved an excellent level of accessibility.
Because the website has been designed using these world standard accessible website guidelines, all young people throughout Scotland have an opportunity to access the information and services provided by youngscot.org.
As the RNIB See It Right Accessible Website logo is valid for one year, Young Scot is currently in the process (Feb 2008) of getting the site re-audited to ensure that the site still meets these accessible website guidelines.
The site currently meets the UK Gov WC3 WAI Single A standard.
