Information

Young Person’s Bus Concessionary Card

  • If you are under 16, you are entitled to a child fare on the buses. You can use your Young Scot National Entitlement Card to prove your age when travelling.
  • If you are 16, 17 and 18 you are eligible for a third off adult single fares on all local and long distance bus services available to the general public.
  • Travel discounts are not valid on premium fare buses, City Sightseeing buses, or bus travel within England.

Can I use my Young Scot National Entitlement Card on the buses?

In most local authority areas you can use your Young Scot National Entitlement Card to get discounted bus travel. Simply show your Young Scot card to the bus driver when buying your ticket and you will be able to get a third off the adult fare.

However not all bus services are able to recognise your Young Scot card yet. Buses are currently being fitted with new electronic ticket machines, and when this is finished your Young Scot National Entitlement Card will act as an electronic Smart card that will allow your journey to be accurately recorded by the bus driver. Until this happens you will be issued with a Bus Concessions Card which will help the bus driver identify that you are entitled to a discount. To claim your discount you should show your Bus Concessions Card to the driver.

How do I get a bus concessions card?

If you already have a Young Scot Card you can get in touch with your local authority, and if you need a Young Person’s Bus Concessionary Card in your area, they will be able to send you one out. You can find details of your local authority office in the Get your Card section of this website, or ring the Young Scot InfoLine on 0808 801 0338.

If you don’t have your Young Scot NEC Card yet, then you will need to apply for one. Ring the Young Scot InfoLine on 0808 801 0338 to find out how to apply.

Your local authority office will also be able to update the photo or other details on your card.
