If you are 16, 17 and 18 and have a Young Scot National Entitlement Card simply show your card when buying a train ticket to get great discounted fares – you no longer need the separate Scottish Youth Railcard!
What discounts can I get on the train?
If you are 16, 17 or 18 years old, your Young Scot NEC allows you to buy rail tickets for travel within Scotland at discounted prices. You can get:
- One third off most single or return rail fares.
- 50 % off all weekly or monthly tickets.
- One third off most advance purchases.
You no longer need to request a separate rail voucher or use a Scottish Youth Railcard to get access these offers.
You can also use your Young Scot card to book discounted tickets online via the ScotRail website. Simply select Scottish Youth in the Railcard drop down section when booking your ticket.
How can I get the discounts?
Tickets should be bought in person from the Ticket Office or on the train to claim your rail discount, as the discount is not always provided by online ticket providers. Simply ask for the Young Scot discount and show your card to get the reduced fare.
What restrictions apply?
There are certain restrictions on the 1/3rd off rail travel discount. There is a minimum spend if you want to travel before 10am on a weekday. At peak times you must spend £12 minimum on standard day or open return or on standard single tickets in order to qualify for the discount.
There are no peak time restrictions on using the Scottish Youth Railcard to buy a season ticket.
