European Year of...
2013 is the European Year of Citizens
The European Year of Citizens 2013 is dedicated to the rights that come with EU citizenship. Over this year, the European Institutions will encourage dialogue between all levels of government, civil society and business at events and conferences around Europe to discuss those EU rights and build a vision of how the EU should be in 2020.
Visit the official website for more information on the European Year of Citizens.
European Capital of Culture
Another way to promote and celebrate the cultural heritage of Europe is the European Capital of Culture. In 2013 it is... Marseille in France and Košice in Slovakia. There will be lots going on so if you were thinking about taking a trip to either of them, 2013 would be a great time to do it.
This whole Capital of Culture lark came about as a means of bringing citizens of the European Union closer together – celebrating the cultural history of lots of different places.
