The British Youth Council (BYC) are the UK pilot partners in the launch of a new European youth debating website ‘OURSPACE’.
OurSpace is a website for young people to write about issues that affect them, debate with young people across Europe, come up with proposals and then vote on the proposals. These proposals will then be directly passed on to decision makers. OurSpace will get MPs and MEPs using the website so young people can have direct contact with them. The young people can write about local UK issues or European/International issues.
One of the outcomes of the last European elections showed that there was a large gap between European decision makers and young people. The aim of the website is to help bridge this gap. The European Commission have funded the development of this platform so young people can have direct contact with decision makers.
The website is officially being launched in October 2012 and BYC need to have 1500 UK young people registered and using the site by July 2013.
