Bonjour, Guten Tag, Hola, ya sas, Ciao....
You might hear some of these languages on your holidays. But do you know where you can learn more words and phrases?
Finding out the tastiest food, the best hang outs, or just getting a huge smile from the locals, is easy to do when you have a bash at speaking another language. Even learning only a handful of words or phrases can go a long way to making your holiday even better.
By having a bash at the language you are showing respect for the local culture and people as you are making an effort and trying to communicate in their native tongue.
Yeah, you might get the pronunciation wrong or get a bit jumbled up, but you will get lots of bonus points for having a go. You never know you might even get all inspired to learn the language when you get home.
At least this way you will be able to get the correct flavour of ice-cream!
Where can I learn?
BBC Languages Website - This has lots of easy holiday phrases, as well as cool things to say, and a few games and puzzles to get you started. It's not like homework as you can learn a really wide range of languages like Polish, Turkish, Urdu, and Danish.
