Eating Organic

Organic food is produced using environmentally and animal friendly farming methods on organic farms. Food produced organically will often taste better, be healthier, and be better for the environment. Buying organic meat will also mean that animals have a better quality of life.

What’s organic food?

If food is organic, it means it has been produced more naturally.

Crops will be grown using few, if any, chemicals and pesticides. A big focus for organic fruit and vegetable farmers is keeping the soil healthy, as healthy soil leads to healthy food.

Animals reared organically will not be fed hormones and antibiotics. They will also be kept in more natural conditions than animals reared with intensive farming methods. This means they will have better access to fresh air, exercise and healthy food.

What’s so good about organic?

  • Eaters of organic food think that it tastes better than non-organic food.
  • Organic food is also healthier for you. Scientists have found out that organic food contains more vitamins, more minerals and better nutrients than food grown using conventional methods.
  • Organic farming is also better for the environment. As organic farmers don’t use chemicals or pesticides there is no change of these polluting the environment.
  • If you are buying meat you can ensure that animals have been fairly treated well, on their farms and during transportation.
