First Time User Guide
Welcome to the Young Scot site, the place to be online! There’s plenty out there in YS cyberspace for you to check out, but here’s a quick beginners guide to what’s what on youngscot.org
The Homepage
The homepage is the first thing you’ll see when the Young Scot site pops up. It’s where you’ll find:
- Vote of the Day - your chance to vote on a variety of funny and serious topics
- E-Zine - full of latest stories, music and film reviews, interviews and tons more
- News - latest news
- What’s On - guide to the latest gigs, workshops, sports events happening across the country
- Competitions - your chance to win DVDs, CDs, books, gig and cinema tickets, T-shirts, and the odd i-Pod and PS2! New competitions get added every Monday
- Horoscopes - check out what the stars have in story for you this week
- Discounts - if you want to find out where you can use your Young Scot card to keep the pounds in your pocket check out the Discounts and Money Savers sections
- Message Boards - if you want to have your say on any topic, let people know what's bugging you, or want to share some good news with everyone then Rant'n'Rave is the place to do it.
- Young Scot: Loud + Clear - this is the consultation area of the site where you can fill in surveys, give your opinions on topics on message boards, vote and let people know your thoughts. There's often a few prizes on the go for completing surveys so worth a look!
- The L@b - you can send us in your jokes, reviews, top tips, poems and we put it here on the site so you and all your mates can see
- e-Cards - if you fancy being nice then why not send your pals or relatives a free e-Card. All you need is their email address and it's sorted.
Navigation
Making your way around the site is easy. You can work your way through the site either by using the menu down the left hand side of the page, (16 Information Channels), or by using the National Sections or More menu on the right hand side.
The other way to navigate is to use the thread at the top of the page (just underneath the grey bar). It will tell you what section and subsection you are in, and you can return to a section just by clicking on the relevant part in the thread.
eg. You are in: National » Competitions
If you ever want to jump straight back to the homepage, just click on the Home option in the purpley blue top bar.
Local Pages
If you want to find out the latest from your neck of the woods, then the local pages are the place to head, where you’ll find a local L@b section, What's On, Competitions, Money Savers and plenty more.
To check out the local pages, just click on What's Happening In section on the top right hand side (pic of boy being kissed), and then select whichever region you live in.
You can switch between regions at any time!
Young Scot NEC - The Cards
If you’re only just discovering Young Scot for the first time, or haven’t picked up a Young Scot NEC card, then don’t worry, help is at hand!
Phone Young Scot InfoLine on 0808 801 0338 (Mon to Fro 10am - 6pm) and then can tell you more about the card and how you can get one.
Registering Your YS Card
Although you can read all the areas of the site already, if you really want to make the most of the site, then registering your card with the site is your next step. Once you’ve registered your card with us you can enter competitions, post your thoughts on the messageboard (Rant'n'Rave), choose to get Young Scot text messages to your mobile phone, and get a Young Scot monthly newsletter delivered to your email Inbox telling you about the latest Young Scot goss.
To register, just click on the white Register Now link in the top grey bar and fill in the form. Once you’ve registered your card, any time you revisit the site you can log in by entering your username and password in the login box.
And don’t worry if you can’t remember your password – just click on the Forgotten Password option and we’ll send you it again!
On The Hunt
If you want to look at something specific on the site, but aren’t sure where to find it, then simply go to the homepage and use the Search engine in the top right hand of the page. Type in the word you want to find and see if anything magically appears.
Enjoy!
