Samantha Gibb and the Cartel – Wrong Side

Samantha Gibb and the Cartel

This is a great example of the EP format being done well: four songs, well-sung, and reflecting some variation in genre. You can tell both singer and band are very technically proficient at their craft, and the songs are at times soulful, catchy, and tuneful. The first song, "My Spell", sounds quite 90s-esque in its soul-female rhythms as Gibb croons over the microphone. The second, "Take It Easy", is perhaps my favourite of the EP, taking the tempo up a bit and delivering a very singable, catchy chorus. "I'll Stay", the third track, is slightly bland, but then "Wrong Side", the last and titular song definitely makes up for it, ending the CD on a high of very melodic and catchy lyrics and rhythms. Definitely something you should check out if you're into the alternative-indie scene.
