Glasgow Science Centre has announced that they will be hosting the "Wallace and Gromit present... A World of Cracking Ideas", event from Friday the 2nd of April in time for the school Easter holidays.
The exhibition looks at how people can protect their ideas using intellectual property law such as trademarks and patents.
Oscar winning characters Wallace & Gromit are at the heart of the exhibition which appeals to all ages by showcasing how innovation contributes to everyday life. The project builds on the existing relationship between the Intellectual Property Office and Aardman, who have worked together for the last four years on the nationwide Cracking Ideas competition (www.crackingideas.com) which encourages schoolchildren to innovate.
Visitors to "A World of Cracking Ideas" will be able to interact with all kinds of exhibits as they tour a mock up of Wallace and Gromit's house including some of the inventions featured on the hit animated series.
David Lammy, Minister of State for Intellectual Property, said: "'Cracking Ideas' has delighted and inspired young people throughout its run at the Science Museum, where it was visited by over 186,000 people. I hope to see it reach out even further as it opens in Glasgow: showing children and adults alike how far their ideas could take them. "Registering trade marks and patenting inventions is essential for people hoping to make a business out of their creativity. Whilst this is a fun exhibition I hope it also takes forward the serious message that protecting ideas against plagiarism is a key part of that creative process".
From the kitchen to the garden shed, each room in the house will feature a different aspect of the thinking process behind ideas and show visitors how they can protect their intellectual property through patents, trade marks, designs and copyright. Visitors will be able to interact with a number of exhibits by designing their own wallpaper, developing a logo for their own smoothie recipe and creating their own music along with trying their voice in the Karaoke Disco Shower.
As well as some of the specially developed gadgets for the exhibition, visitors will also be able to see how inventions have been developed since their initial creation.Wallace and Gromit…present A World of Cracking Ideas" will be on display at Glasgow Science Centre from April 02 2010 until November 30 2010.
