Where To Go For Help

If you need help and advice on giving up smoking then check out these organisations.

If you want to give up then don’t feel that you are alone. Get help and advice from experts that are only a phone call away.

Smokeline

Information and advice, counselling and encouragement to stop smoking and break the habit. Helpline: 0800 84 84 84 (12 noon – 12 midnight).

Can Stop Smoking Website

NHS Health Scotland has a great website called Can Stop Smoking, which has loads of information, advice and support on giving up smoking. They also have an e-Smokeline on the site where you can fill in a form and ask your questions about smoking. It's a confidential service. You can also chat live with support staff on the website, every evening between 8 and 10pm.

Smokers Quitline

Trained, friendly Quitline counsellors offer confidential help and advice about every stage of quitting. Whether you are just thinking about stopping, have quit for just a short time, or are an ex-smoker trying to stay stopped, then the counsellors can help. The main number is 0800 00 22 00, but if you want to speak to someone in your own language then the details are below:

  • Bengali: Mondays 0800 00 22 44 1pm - 9pm
  • Gujarati: Tuesdays 0800 00 22 55 1pm - 9pm
  • Hindi: Wednesdays 0800 00 22 66 1pm - 9pm
  • Punjabi: Thursdays 0800 00 22 77 1pm - 9pm
  • Urdu: Sundays 0800 00 22 88 1pm - 9pm

If you speak Turkish or Kurdish you can call 0800 00 22 99 on Thursdays and Sundays between 1 and 9pm. The counsellors also understand the cultural implications of smoking.

Quit Because...Website

If you want info and advice to help you quit smoking then the Quit Because website is for you.

ASH Scotland Website

ASH Scotland is a campaigning organisation but they have some information on their website about giving up smoking. 

W-WEST?

Why Waste Everything Smoking Tobacco? A group of young people from Glasgow, both smokers and non-smokers, have produced this website that tells you more about smoking.  As well as information there are games and videos and you can see their Bebo profile too.
