Information
Check this section for details on alcohol, the effects it can have on your health and who to contact for further information.
Many people try alcohol at some stage in their lives. It’s important to know when it’s legal to drink and where. The main thing to note is that you can't go into a pub or shop and buy alcohol until you are 18 and then you should be asked for I.D to prove you're 18 or over.
In the Young Scot Law Channel you can find out about PASS (proof of age), if you need I.D to prove your age for any age restricted goods e.g DVDs, games.
Many people drink alcohol to be sociable, whether this is a matter of going to the pub or time spent with friends or family. Often drinking can make you feel relaxed and less inhibited. This is because alcohol is a depressant and physically alters your perceptions.
It's important to recognise how alcohol makes you feel, as it can influence your actions and judgement. Being aware of this before you drink can help you avoid making wrong decisions or take risks 'under the influence'.
